What is CICA?
Channel Islands Choral Association (CICA) is an independent non-profit organization dedicated to providing vocal music education and performance opportunities in Ventura County. Current projects are the CSU Channel Islands Choir and the Pleasant Valley School District Chorus.
The CSU Channel Islands Choir is a class that is offered at the university and is open to students, faculty and staff and the community. The students enjoy the benefit of singing with experienced choral singers and professional musicians. Each semester, the choir performs at a venue in the community as well as on campus. Each spring, the choir performs a major choral work with the Channel Islands Chamber Orchestra.
The PVSD Chorus is an afterschool program for elementary and middle school students. Students rehearse once a week throughout the school year with many performance opportunities that may include: on-campus concert of the semester’s repertoire for friends and family; holiday caroling at the Camarillo Premium Outlets; the Camarillo Christmas Parade; the Daniel Pearl World Music Festival sponsored by the Boys & Girls Club in Camarillo.
Choral Spectacular 2018
In our upcoming May concerts, the CSU Channel Islands Choir and PVSD Chorus will perform with the Channel Islands Chamber Orchestra. Community singers from Ventura County and students of CSU Channel Islands prepare for several months under the guidance of CICA Artistic Director Dr. KuanFen Liu, and students from the Pleasant Valley School District prepare under the direction of PVSD Chorus Music Director Daniel Newman-Lessler. They all come together in this year's great Choral Spectacular 2018.
